Sigiriya Lion Rock

A Fortress Above the Forest

Sigiriya is one of the most iconic and unforgettable landmarks in Sri Lanka. Rising dramatically from the flat plains, this ancient rock fortress was once the royal palace of King Kasyapa. The climb to the top is both exciting and rewarding, taking you through a series of historical and artistic highlights.

Along the way, you’ll pass the famous Sigiriya frescoes—beautiful ancient paintings of celestial maidens—as well as the Mirror Wall, once polished so perfectly that it reflected images like a mirror. The Lion’s Paws, carved into the rock, mark the entrance to the final ascent and are one of the most recognizable features of the site.

At the summit, the remains of the palace and breathtaking 360-degree views make the effort worthwhile. The surrounding gardens, including water gardens and boulder gardens, showcase advanced design and engineering for their time.

Sigiriya is more than just a climb—it’s a journey through history, art, and innovation, all in one extraordinary location.
